Water pipe replacement project will begin soon in some parts of Great Falls

BIG FALLS — Starting in August, Central Plumbing & Heating will begin replacing a group of water pipes that are more than a century old.

The water pipe replacement project will begin soon in some areas of Great Falls

Earlier this month, the budget was approved to begin this $800,000 replacement project.

The plan is to divide the project into parts, so that residents and companies will not be without water for a longer period of time. Construction will start in August and last until November.

It begins on 5th Street South between 4th and 5th Avenues and continues in adjacent areas.

While this is underway, residents in the affected areas can anticipate changes in parking availability, construction disruptions and temporary water shutdowns.

Even after almost a century of use, the pipelines do not suffer from breakage or corrosion that needs to be replaced.

Mary Mohland, the project’s assistant manager, explains, “The City of Great Falls just goes through areas that need it and then goes through the design process. Nothing I know calls the replacement.”

Residents affected by this construction will receive a warning.
