Royal Thai appoints new CEO

Royal ThaiCalhoun, Ga.—Luxury carpet manufacturer Royal Thai has appointed Shyam Bhatter as CEO of the flooring division of TCM Corporation. If he takes on his leadership role, he will succeed outgoing CEO Mark Johnson, who retired at the end of December 2021, on January 1.

Since the Don Muang district of Bangkok in 1967, TCM Corporation has become one of the largest exporters of carpets and rugs in the world, according to the company. With a portfolio of companies organized under the branches of TCM Flooring, TCM Automotive and TCM Living, Bhatter’s expertise will be leveraged in leading sister carpet companies Royal Thai and Carpets Inter.

“We are confident that Mr. Bhatter, with his wealth of business knowledge and experience in the flooring industry, will build on our solid foundation to lead our teams with a new global vision and strategy for accelerated sustainable growth in our flooring business,” said Piyaporn Phanachet. , CEO and member of the board of directors for TCM Corporation.

Bhatter started the company, formerly known as Tai Ping, in 2005, where his main goals were revenue growth, business optimization and cost control. Since then, Bhatter has obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Rajasthan and an MBA
from Emory University. He also gained experience in leadership roles at Manmohan Group, Jaipur Rugs, Tai Ping and now Royal Thai.

According to the company, the decades-long vision came to fruition in 2017 when, as global CFO, he led the hospitality-focused division through a successful acquisition aimed at closing and streamlining integration. This acquisition was the launch pad for the brand known today as Royal Thai.

Towards the end of 2019, Bhatter welcomed a new role as President of Royal Thai Americas & EMEA. “Cultivating a corporate culture that supports both individual growth and deep commitment to corporate goals allows employees and the organization to thrive,” Bhatter said. “I build strong teams by leading with empathy and enthusiasm and celebrating team victories to foster ownership of business results.”
