Nissan releases bi-directional charger for LEAF electric vehicle
Nissan has worked with Energy stop to develop a bi-directional charger for use with the Nissan LEAF electric car in the United States.
With Nissan’s approval and its UL 9741 certification for bi-directional charging systems, the Fermata Energy FE-15 charger meets Nissan’s key requirements and has been verified to be compatible with Nissan LEAF. Use of the approved charger also does not affect the LEAF’s battery warranty.
Bi-directional charging technology means not only charging the Nissan LEAF, but also returning energy stored in the vehicle’s battery back to the building or the electrical grid. Ideal for companies with fleets, the Fermata Energy Demand Charge Management application, together with the FE-15 charger, continuously monitors a building’s electrical loads and can use the energy from the Nissan LEAF to power the building during more expensive, high demand periods. In states with utility demand response programs, Nissan LEAF bi-directional vehicles (MY2013 and later) can safely transfer the energy stored in the battery to the grid during peak times, such as during the summer months.
