New Mexico opens $5.3 million commercial energy efficiency loan program

The New Mexico Energy department, Minerals and Natural Resources has announced that it accepts applications for Loans to finance energy efficiency upgrades In commercial buildings that serve a community goal. Upgrades on solar and electrical panel are eligible for loans as part of an extensive project for energy efficiency project plan.

EMNRD received $ 5.3 million from the US Dept. Or Energy to create an energy efficiency twisting fund (EILLF), which offers low interest loans ranging from $ 250,000 to $ 1 million to eligible organizations throughout the state. Eligible organizations include non-profit and profit motive that have or exploit commercial buildings that serve a public service, such as education, recreation, health care or cultural services.

“This loan fund is another way in which we support the goal of Gov. Lujan Grisham to stimulate New Mexico’s economy and at the same time protect his environment,” said EMNRD SEC. Melanie Genderdine. “These loans ensure the economic viability of the recipients by reducing the costs for building upgrades and at the same time reducing their carbon footprints.”

De Eerlf offers loans with a fixed speed of 2% to cover energy -efficiency -upgrades, such as smart thermostats, new HVAC systems, insulation, air sealing, lighting and improvements of the construction envelope.

Applicants must prove that more than 50% of their income is earned in New Mexico or that more than 50% of their services are delivered in the state.

EMNRD’s Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECAM) works together with the New Mexico Finance Authority to manage the program.
