Mapei acquires new facility in Houston

Houston— Mapei Corporation has expanded its growth strategy with the acquisition of a new 200,000-square-foot facility located here, designed for the production of powders and liquid excipients.

Currently, the facility is in “phase one” of development as production equipment is installed, and offers the facility for expansion in the future, said Carlo Mandelli, Mapei Corporation’s director of operations. “When it opens in 2023, this new facility will be a huge strategic asset for us in Houston’s growing market,” he said.

Located northwest of the city along the Beltway 8 corridor, the facility aims to create jobs for some of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Houston area – Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita. “By 2023, the plant will be operational and will not only produce Mapei products, but also create about 80 new jobs between direct and indirect labor,” said Luigi Di Geso, Mapei president and CEO. “This Houston facility joins our Garland facility, expanding our footprint in Texas and allowing us to serve our customers in the South, West and Central United States even more efficiently.”

The Houston facility also joins construction approaching final stages at the Mapei facilities in Dalton and Fredericksburg, Virginia. Both will also be full production facilities; announcements regarding their openings will be forthcoming, according to the company.
