Jacksonville company seeking nominations to give away new roofs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local roofing company donates new roofs to educators as part of an annual initiative.

“Unfortunately, people only really realize the consequences of a leaking roof when it is much too late. Because it seeps into the attic, it seeps behind the walls, it’s kind of invisible water intrusion. Those overtime hours can worsen and really cause long-term damage in the home. Your air quality can decrease, no one needs mold in the house. You have developed breathing problems over time and you may have had a slow leak in your roof,” said Sean Shapiro, CEO of Reliant Roofing, Solar, & Hurricane Shutters.

Reliant Roofing Company gives three teachers new roofs through the annual Every Shingle Heart initiative.

He says teachers deserve this now more than ever.

“It’s the frontline workers who don’t get all the exposure like some other frontline workers. It is close to my heart and the heart of my partner. My wife is actually a schoolteacher here in Duval County and we have some former teachers here who work for us at Reliant, so we understand the long days and hours they are putting into those kids to normalize school life during Covid,” said Shapiro.

The initiative started in 2017 to give back to various people and organizations across the community who served others. In 2020, Reliant Roofing gave away roofs to primary care medical personnel.

“We’re just trying to find people who are selfless people, who serve the community in their own way and sometimes their well-being to give back to those who need it more than they do,” Shapiro said.

The nomination deadline is August 31.

You can nominate anyone who works in education, from teachers and paraprofessionals to front office employees.
