Heavy winds damage roofs at Blairmont, utility pole in Clifton

Sudden heavy gusts of wind in County Berbice completely destroyed the roof of a house in Blairmont yesterday morning, while local residents lost several zinc sheets from their roofs. The wind also uprooted a utility pole in Clifton, Corentyne, leaving residents in the area without telephone and internet services.

Reeta Persaud, 50, of Lot 71 Number 1 Blair-mont, West Bank Berbice, told Stabroek News yesterday that heavy winds started around 7:30 am and destroyed their roof within minutes, allowing rain to freely spill over the top flat of their home and thoroughly soaked their belongings.

“Right now my pressure has risen, I assume a lot, all my things, all my clothes, everything wet and the wind is blowing me away. It’s just going to be tough,” the traumatized woman said.
