Enphase IQ8 microinverter system now UL 1741-certified
Enphase Energy announced that the Enphase IQ8 Microinverter System is now certified to UL 1741, 3rd Edition, including Supplement SB. This certification complies with the new North American safety and grid interconnection standards for connecting solar inverters, energy storage systems and distributed energy sources to the grid in accordance with IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 1547-1 2020.
This new UL standard is used by testing agencies to demonstrate that a product complies with IEEE standards. Enphase was actively involved in the development of the UL and IEEE standards and participated as a member of the committees that set the rules. The new standards introduce requirements for several advanced interconnection functions that will enable the network to accommodate much higher levels of renewable DERs. A major new capability, known as “interoperability,” standardizes the way utilities can communicate with and control DERs such as solar and battery systems. Interoperability provides a critical mechanism for DERs to be efficiently and cost-effectively updated to better respond to the ever-changing conditions on the grid.
“Enphase is pleased that our industry-leading IQ8 microinverter system is the first product in North America to receive this critical certification from UL,” said Raghu Belur, co-founder and chief product officer at Enphase Energy. “Our close collaboration with UL has enabled us to quickly meet all applicable North American safety standards. We have chosen UL as our global certification partner and our close collaboration with them has been invaluable. We look forward to continuing to work with UL to expand our innovative product offering and help transform the network.”
Enphase’s IQ8 microinverters, combined with the IQ Combiner 4/4C and IQ Gateway, are the first complete residential DER system to be certified by UL.
“We are at the dawn of a new era in which distributed energy sources, such as solar photovoltaics and battery systems, will become a fundamental element of the way we think about electricity for our homes, buildings and tools for utility use,” said Jeff Smidt, senior VP of industrial testing, inspection and certification at UL. “With the Enphase IQ8 Microinverter as the first-ever distributed power source product, certified by UL to UL 1741, 3rd Edition with the SB Supplement, Enphase has taken an important step to ensure the safety and security of reliable, clean and smart energy. which is available in home or on the net.”
