Babcock & Wilcox selected to build 20 MW of Illinois community solar

Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) announced that its B&W Renewable segment has been awarded contracts totaling more than $20 million by Summit Ridge Energy (SRE) to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for seven community solar projects in Illinois.

When completed, the seven solar farms will provide approximately 20 MW of power for homes and businesses in northern and central Illinois.

“Solar demand is growing in the United States as communities and utilities strive to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and provide clean, sustainable energy for residents,” said Jimmy Morgan, executive VP and chief operating officer of B&W. “With strong in-depth experience and expertise, B&W is well positioned to provide world-class solar installation services to US solar customers for both community and utility projects.”

Engineering for the projects is currently underway and completion is expected in Q1 2023.

“SRE is proud to continue its legacy of shaping Illinois as a leading clean energy market and is excited to partner with B&W to make this happen,” said Steve Raeder, CEO of Summit Ridge Energy. “Americans across the country are looking for reliable, resilient and clean energy to power their lives. It is critical that the industry continues to meet this demand and find new ways to ensure that all Americans can participate in the energy transition.”
