5.4-kWh Fortress Power battery receives UL 9540 listing
fortress power announced that its eFlex 5.4 kWh lithium battery has completed UL 9540A thermal runaway testing. The battery is also listed under UL 9540.
Fortress Power said its batteries did not catch fire when subjected to thermal runaway tests. The Fortress Power eFlex 5.4 unit only produced smoke after four hours of heating with a cell temperature above 120°C (250°F). The battery pack stabilized and the temperature dropped back to 95 °F (35 °C) in five hours. During the entire 14 hours of testing, Fortress said no visible flame/fire was observed.
The eFlex battery uses an extruded aluminum housing with a prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery module design.
“Safety and reliability are our number one priority in the residential energy storage system. We select best-in-class lithium iron phosphate battery cells and power electronics in all of our battery systems. Our digital processing-based battery management system (BMS) has an optimized control algorithm to protect the battery cell and extend its life,” said Eric Wang, CTO of Fortress Power.
